𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗘𝗬𝗘𝗦
— Sri Lanka's iconic lamprais is notoriously difficult to photograph attractively, and that may perhaps be the only reason why this uniquely Sri Lankan lunch isn't world famous. Like some wild-haired jungle beauty, it defies all styling, and photographers and restauranteurs have long despaired of ever titillating a prospective diner with a picture. The lamprais may present itself demurely at your table, neatly packed in its banana leaf, but undress it and it explodes across the plate in a spectrum of colour, aroma, and texture that challenges all attempts to make it fit for civilised company. But I think I may have pulled this one off. Is your mouth watering? Are you about to call up the nearest Burgher aunty in search of one? If so, my job is done. Shot for Amma Nissa and Obsidian, in May 2026. Lighting by Tai Shin Shiek.*
