When I went to West Africa, I didn't just move blindly. My mission has always been taking East to West and West to East,sharing knowledge, crops and culture.

One of the first things that welcomed me there was a delicious organic drink called Wonjo, made from the flowers I'm holding in this photo. I loved it from the first sip.

Before I travelled back to Kenya, a Kenyan lecturer who had retired after teaching in The Gambia reached out and asked me to bring him Wonjo flowers for juice. That's when I realized I wasn't the only one addicted to this drink.

Instead of bringing just dried flowers, I brought two seed varieties one from Mali and another from The Gambia. I planted them here at home and, despite the chief's daughter forgetting to give them the nice treatment, they have done amazingly well.

Wonjo belongs to the hibiscus family and i also have the kenyan variety, and tomorrow I'll be harvesting these flowers to make fresh Wonjo juice. To complete the West African experience, I'll also cook Domoda (rice with groundnuts), one of my favorite dishes from The Gambia.

I came back with many crops, herbs and ideas that I discovered during my journey. Some of them, I honestly believe, are still very rare in Kenya. Over the next few days, I'll be introducing them one by one.

The research continues.
