"Pottery knife handle! A challenge to develop a new knife through collaboration of artisan techniques! We want to protect the techniques of Sakai knives"
"ORIBE KNIFE" is a new product of a collaboration between the traditional industries of Sakai City and Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, with a Seto ware knife handle attached to a Sakai forged knife blade. The product name "ORIBE" comes from "Oribe ware," a type of pottery, and ORIBE knives are a collection of knife handles that make use of that technique.
The name Oribe ware comes from Furuta Oribe, a feudal tea master and disciple of Sen no Rikyu, who is said to be the founder of the tea ceremony, from Sakai. Oribe ware, which was made according to his preferences and played an important role in the development of the tea ceremony and was particularly famous in the world of tea bowls and tea rooms, is known as "innovative pottery" with free and open shapes and patterns made using copper glaze, and bright colors.
