Raghav Chadha has raised concerns in Parliament over a major telecom billing issue affecting prepaid mobile users across India.
He pointed out that many telecom operators offer “monthly” recharge plans that actually last 28 days, instead of the usual 30–31 days in a calendar month. Because of this, users end up recharging 13 times a year instead of 12.
According to Chadha, this system quietly increases the annual cost for millions of customers without them even realizing it.
With nearly 125 crore prepaid mobile subscribers in the country, he said the practice creates a significant extra financial burden on consumers.
The issue has now triggered a wider debate on transparency in telecom pricing and whether regulators should ensure that monthly plans align with actual calendar months to better protect consumer interests.
