🖼️ New in our art collection, found by the Dans in an antiques and vintage treasures hunting .

The Sun Stone (Piedra del Sol) Hand-knitted yarn on burlap, unknown artist and year.

“This handmade textile reimagines the Aztec Sun Stone, the great “calendar stone” of Mexico. At its centre sits Tonatiuh, the sun god, his tongue outstretched, encircled by the signs of the days and the four points of the cosmos, ringed by two fire serpents. The prickly-pear cacti in each corner (the nopal, emblem of Mexico)root the piece firmly in the land and culture it celebrates”.
