Hello Taichung! I came here in April to meet up with my sister and hang out with family. Tried a super local old school (since 1946!) sticky rice cake 米糕 shop plus tapioca pearls over ice! 粉圓 (which we always called “huin ni” in Taiwanese dialect). My mom made it for us when we were kids. Soooo thrilled to see them selling it on the street.

My first time really experiencing Flushing in Queens. Soooo many Chinese shops & restaurants. Almost feels like I am back in HK. 😄 We enjoyed delicious authentic Xinjiang food at New Nyan Uighur Restaurant. Really cool to try some dishes I’d never had before. Afterwards we wandered around a bit and I saw the biggest Laoganma 老乾媽chili crisp jar I’d ever seen. “Everything is big in the U.S.” 😂

We were beyond thrilled to find out that has now opened a restaurant in New York! This was our favorite pasta restaurant in Rome. We love their famous carbonara pasta as well as the market + restaurant concept. Of course we had to come here. The New York location does not have a real market like the one in Italy. Still, they’ve preserved the market feel of the original place, and we still had a great meal there. .

(I mixed up some of my photos earlier, so you may recognize some of these photos from an earlier post. This is now accurate. 😅)

Sooo happy that one of our favorite Italian restaurants in New York (when we used to come annually 10 years ago) is still going strong! We re-visited and had an amazing time enjoying fantastic cheese (from all over!), excellent pastas, and (of course) salumi! We used to think that this was New York’s version of in Rome. It still embodies the concept of being a salumeria shop & restaurant, which we love.

It’s been 10 years since I’ve dined at what has always been one of my favorite restaurants in New York . The food continues to be excellent, and some iconic dishes have remained on the menu for all these years! (e.g., the signature tuna over foie gras). One interesting point. Bryan doesn’t eat sweets and asked what he could substitute for the dessert course instead. He was hoping for perhaps cheese, or maybe a coffee or a drink? They could only offer a salad. 🤔 He felt it was weird to eat salad at that point, so in the end he ate no dessert and paid for a coffee instead. 🫤 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finally got to try the original impossible-to-reserve in New York City!! Such history in this place! The food and service were fantastic. Honestly, the Hong Kong location does an excellent job of recreating the dishes and ambiance of the original place. Such a special experience!!!

A fun tasting menu of creative skewers from a restaurant that pays “homage to Korean royal cuisine, inspired by street food.” Beautiful interpretations of various Korean flavors, presented skewers-style! ⭐️

Lovely bite-sized wonders at this 1-Michelin star New York restaurant .official focusing on creative mini handrolls. The tasting menu had some real knock-out courses, was reasonably priced, and the service was excellent. We had so much fun here!

BEST tacos in Times Square (for sure), and one of the best tacos in NYC. ALWAYS a long line, but it moves fast. My friend, an American (New Yorker!) who spent his childhood in Mexico City, swears by this place. It is lively, crowded, authentic, and they make their own adobada meat (kind of like Al Pastor but layered on a spit that rotates on a fire) the traditional way. Inexpensive, fresh ingredients, handmade corn tortillas, the real deal. Oh, and cane sugar Mexican Coke!

This legendary sandwich is worth the 45 minute wait! We waited in the rain 🌧️ in a line that took up the whole block before going inside and waiting more. The pastrami sandwich is AMAZING! Bryan tried the reuben with pastrami, which he also liked. Portions are GIGANTIC, but it’s so delicious I still ate more than I thought I would. The line moves fast, and the old school feel inside is priceless. Our server had been doing the same job for like 25 years. So cool.
