My father, Timothy Persaud, is the proud father of six daughters and one son. To us, he is more than just a parent—he is our ultimate inspiration.
He has always been the sole provider for our home, teaching us the true meaning of humility. He often reminds us that while he isn't rich, he works tirelessly to give us something far more valuable than money—an education. That, to him, is the greatest gift a parent can give. There were many days when he struggled just to ensure we attended the best schools and had everything we needed. Even if it meant going without himself, my father always made sure his children never did.
To provide for us over the years, my dad wore many hats. He worked as a teacher, a police officer, a poultry farmer, a bus driver, a baker in the bush, and a cashier—anything he could do to earn an honest living. Every single opportunity that came his way, he embraced head-on, simply because it meant he could give his family a little more.
Eventually, he found his true passion: cooking. That enabled him to build what is now our family business—a wholesale dhalpuri venture. We truly would not be where we are today without Sterling Products Limited. Thanks to their Baker’s Pride shortening, we are able to produce the softest, most delicious dhalpuri in large quantities, delivering the exact quality our customers have come to love and expect.
Determined to grow, my father took his passion even further. He enrolled at the Carnegie School of Home Economics to pursue professional training in catering and hospitality. At the very same time his eldest daughter was preparing for her CSEC exams, he was studying right alongside her, proving that it is never too late to learn and grow.
That love for culinary arts took my dad to incredible places. He made history as the very first Guyanese to represent our country at the Maggie's Food Court competition. His talent later earned him the opportunity to work as a chef at the restaurant at Leverick Bay in the British Virgin Islands.
But perhaps his greatest test was not found in any classroom or kitchen. Life placed him in a position where he had to carry everything on his own—and he did. My father stepped into the role of a single father, bearing the full weight of providing, guiding, and raising seven children, all while continuing to meet every responsibility without complaint. Regardless of his age, his burdens, or the many roles he has had to take on, he continues to show us what it means to persevere. No matter how many times life has knocked him down, he rises—steady, determined, and unshaken.
To us, he is our Sterling Super Dad, and he deserves to be celebrated today and every day.
