“I Am the Ficus Tree of This Yard”

They say I’m just a tree — but I’ve been here longer than most.
Some believe a traveler brought my seed long ago, others think I just appeared one day, exactly where I was needed.
Truth is, I don’t remember.
But I do remember faces. Laughter. The smell of grilled meat, fresh oregano, and summer nights full of voices.

I’ve watched this place grow — from a small yard to a buzzing little taverna full of life.
I’ve offered shade to tired feet, listened to clinking glasses, stolen whispers, toasts, and “opa!” from locals and visitors alike.

My roots run deep under this old stone floor, and my branches stretch wide above your table.
And though I don’t speak, if you sit here long enough…
you might just hear me — telling the story of this island, this courtyard, this family.

Because I’m not just part of the scenery.
I’m part of the story.
