you know.....that on the first Sunday of each month from November to March you can visit all archeological sites and most museums in Greece for free? Bonus tip: the 6th of March is Melina Merkouri day and another chance for visitors to get into all archeological sites and most museums for free.
We decided to take advantage of the sun (don' t get fooled for some reason it is still cold in Athens and it has been raining half the time) and plan a small outing for our family. We have visited the Acropolis museum many times but the childten had never climed the site so it was time we changed that! We were there at 11 in the morning and it at about noon we decide to leave and get a cup of coffee - it was just in time to avoid the bigger crowds. We wanted to visit the agora site too but it started raining soon after so we will do so another time🙂

When I was little I used to make fun of all those grandmathers who spent all day making tsourekia and koulouria in preparation for Easter. I just did not see the point of keeping with the tradition. Now I understand.
Kalo Pasha Happy Easter to all!

The most traditional recipes of Mesinia are the lalagia and the tiganopsoma. Even though you will find them in every bakery you can easily make them at home.
In a bowl mix 1 cup of tap water 1 cup of plain flour and 15 gr of dry yeast. Leave it in a warm place for an hpur until bubbles are formed. Then add 2 table spoons of olive oil, 1 pinch of salt, 1 pinch of sugar and as much plain flour as it needs to form a nice dough that does not stick to your hands. Leave it in a warm place to rest for 1 hour. Then take little pieces and either make small pies for the tiganopsoma or snake shapes for the lalagia. Deep fry until golden. Serve sweet with honey or jam or savoury with feta or other cheese or even cold cuts.

When the children ask mommy has to deliver😁I made red prawn sauce today and the children chose this tube pasta to go with it. For the sauce I used 1kilo large prawns, olive oil, 200 gr tomatoes, 1 onion, fresh basil, fresh oregano, salt, pepper. Dice the onion and sautee with the olive oil in a large pan. Add the prawns after you have cleaned the carefully they will only take 5 minutes to cook. Add the rest of the ingredients finely chopped. In another 10 minutes your sauce is ready.

Chances are that if you've ever been to a greek house you've tried a spoon sweet. Greek women prepare them and offer them to guests very proudly as it is a proof of their skill as cooks.
My most favorite is bergamont which is in season right now and when I saw some at the farmer's market yesterday I couldn't resist. However, they are made by all kinds of fruit and sometimes vegetables and in later years they are served as toppings on ice creams and yoghurt.
To make bergamont spoon sweet you will need 5 or 6 bergamonts (1 kilo), 1 kilo of sugar, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 lemon (the juice and the peels) and 2 cups of water.
Carefully zest the bergamonts (tip keep the zest in the refrigerator to use in cakes. It lasts for 1 year) Then peel them and cut the peels in thin and as long as possible sticks. Put the peels in a large pot and cover with water, boil them until the are soft when you pinch them with a fork. Strain them and keep them aside. In the pot add the rest of the ingredients and bring to the boil then add the bergamont peels. It is ready when the syrup thickens.
Take out the lemon peels and wait until it cools down. Store in a glass jar jar with a lid for up to a year.
