What a brilliant second outing to Rye Castle Museum today. We were treated to special, behind-the-scenes access where Heather from the museum shared her knowledge and gave us the opportunity to get close to many of the stunning pottery pieces. We then created stencils using many of the shapes and designs as inspiration. Then it was time to get printing using the hand-cut stencils on the gel plates.

Participants really did create some wonderful prints using a range of techniques, colours and mark-making tools – be sure to look through all the photos to get an idea of the whole session.

I was invited back to deliver a special autumn-inspired session for ‘The Monday Gang’ this week. It was such a beautiful morning – the sun was out and the autumn colours glowed all around us. We decorated a whole stack of wooden slices with autumnal imagery and then made some fabulously colourful bookmarks & postcards. There was tea, music, cake and much merriment!

The Monday Gang is a vibrant & easy-going group for people in the early stages of dementia. They meet on a Monday in the gorgeous walled garden of , Hawkhurst. Big thanks to Sarah & Fiona at WRAP (Weald Rural Activities Partnership) & for inviting me to deliver this creative workshop and thank you to everyone for another warm welcome!

Do you have a group you’d like to book a bespoke workshop for? I can provide creative sessions for both adults and children. All materials for the workshop are provided (along with a stack of guidance and encouragement from me!). Send me an email: [email protected] with more details. Shelley ✂️

Just 5 spots left for this one…

There will be a whole load of festive imagery, patterns and papers for you to create some Christmas cards with a difference. You’ll have the chance to make up to five wonderfully unique greeting cards and if there’s still time, then you can also try your hand at collaging some gift tags! https://www.waysofseeing.art/service-page/christmas-cards-a-collage-workshop-1

The theme for October’s Ways of Doing challenge is…READING!

Reading is one of my favourite things to do, although I don’t do it often enough at the moment! Looking around at the art on my walls at home, there are quite a few portraits of people reading. Books can open up new worlds, give knowledge and inspire. There are also different types of reading to consider – reading minds, reading maps, reading the room - there are numerous possibilities! Your task is to bring to life a creative response using reading as your inspiration…

As always, this creative challenge is completely free to take part in; it's just something joyful to get involved with. Once you’ve created your response, share it on Instagram with the hashtag and tag .art or email it to me at [email protected] with all the details.

I can’t wait to see what you are inspired to create!

Woah! There have been 34 artworks created for September’s Ways Of Doing: Sepia challenge! What a wonderful variety of responses – those autumnal tones really got the creativity flowing.

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who took part, it’s always so lovely to see all of the different ways in which you are inspired to be creative. Special mentions for this month go to: .collages .bruce.52 .duff & everyone else who emailed in creative responses!

October’s Ways of Doing prompt will be announced tomorrow (although I’ve still not decided what the theme is yet!), Shelley 🤎

Come to Rye Castle Museum and create some fabulous gel plate prints using the museum’s wonderful pottery collection as your inspiration. This workshop is a carbon copy of the workshop in August - it was so much fun we decided to do it all over again! Participants created some truly fabulous prints, and we can't wait to see what the next set of attendees produce.

Museum staff will be treating us to a behind-the-scenes tour where we can get close to the collection and really get inspired! You’ll then create up to four stencils to use on the gel plate during the printing part of this workshop. It’ll be up to you to decide on whether to stick to traditional colours and outlines or go a bit wild in your interpretation - there will be no rules (and no limit on the amount of prints produced in the time given)!
