Risca and Pontymister Town Centre Action Plan - Public Consultation - 19th February to 12th March 2014
A public consultation, offering local people to have their say on a new draft Town Centre Action Plan for Risca and Pontymister, begins this month. Copies of the draft Action Plan will be available to view on the Council’s website (www.caerphilly.gov.uk/planning) and at Risca Library.
Between 28th February and 8th March a public exhibition will be on display at Risca Library. Officers from the council will be on hand to answer any questions on the following dates:
Tuesday 4th March 2pm - 5pm
Thursday 6th March 3.30pm - 6.30pm
Saturday 8th March 10am - 1pm
The exhibition will give local people an opportunity to contribute to the Plan, which contains over 35 new proposals, set to provide a comprehensive regeneration programme for the town centre.
A key feature of the plan is the inclusion of a number of key development sites within the town that can present strong opportunities for economic growth and regeneration. Many of these proposals rely heavily on private sector investment. With flood alleviation works planned to start this summer, this will help unlock these key sites to the private sector.
A specific exhibition on the proposed flood alleviation works will take place on Tuesday 4th March at Risca Library between 2 pm and 7 pm.
The Natural Resources Wales (NRW) are currently carrying out a feasibility study, supported by CCBC in identifying areas of the River Ebbw that are still likely to flood in the future. While certain flood defences were erected along the riverbank many years ago, some of these defences are now seen by the NRW as potentially inadequate should a major flooding event happen in the future. Once the main areas of concern have been identified, suitable improvement works can be designed. The design and cost of these improvement works will then be submitted to WEFO who will hopefully approve the project and part fund the proposals.
