Just a little appreciation post for everyone who got down for our bar takeover and cupping with the guys from darkmatterroasters last Saturday 25th. We started Roma with the idea of creating community around what we love and it warms our hearts when we feel that through an event like this.

A special thanks to Tom and Sammy for coming and jumping on bar to brew up some of their world class coffees. Relationships with roasters like you guys are what keeps the passion of what we do alive.

📣 It’s time for another bar takeover and we’re collaborating with darkmatterroasters on this one

Dark Matter are a London based roastery specialising in curating and roasting unique coffee. Known for selecting coffees with new and interesting fermentation techniques, and then roasting them in a way which brings that character through with boldness and clarity.

We had their butter co-ferment on guest espresso and retail in April and it sold out super quickly (we’ve got something similar planned for the day and we think you’re going to like it).

Really looking forward to this one 🪩

🗓️ Date - Saturday 25th July
⏰ Timings -
8am: Open as usual
10am: Tom will join on the bar to make your coffee and chat about Dark Matter
3pm: We’re closing up a little early to prepare for our cupping event

4-6pm: Cupping
Tom will guide us through a tasting while chatting about how Dark Matter coffee is sourced and the roasting process.
Whether you know your tasting notes inside out, or you just really love a good brew and fancy learning a bit more, this one’s for you.
Expect unique coffees, good people, and a cosy little evening at Roma. ☕️

Tickets are limited and available via the link in our bio ^

This week on retail we’ve got La Cabra who based in Copenhagen. They were our very first retail guest roaster last year so it’s lush to be getting them back on the shelves.

Potosi - Colombia 🇨🇴
Natural San Juan
Tasting Notes: Ripe Stone Fruits, Cacao, Lemon Zest
A fruity and wild hybrid varietal of Bourbon and Pacamara from Cafe Granja La Esperanza. La Cabra has been buying this lot and every year it exceeds expectations - perfect for a round and juicy espresso.

Rutas del Incas - Peru 🇵🇪
Washed Caturra, Catuai
Tasting Notes: Orange, Lemon, Dried Apricot
Bright, delicate and deeply sweet coffee from the Andean spine. If you want traditional but a little bit out of the box, try this one on filter.

Yacuri Washed Typica - Ecuador 🇪🇨
Washed Typica
Tasting Notes: Soft Stone Fruits, White Tea, Jasmine
A very soft expression of a Washed Typica, with delicate stone fruits and light tea-like florals shining. Perfect for anyone looking for a more complex filter option.

Yacuri Washed Geisha - Ecuador 🇪🇨
Washed Geisha
Tasting Notes: Tropical Fruits, Lemongrass, Jasmine
Juicy lychee and lemongrass florals. From the same farm as the previous Typica, this one’s an uplifted version with brighter florals, juicier fruit notes.

Today we’re saying goodbye and good luck to Dylan who is leaving to do an internship. 🚀

Dylan became part of the team last year when he offered to cover some occasional shifts and instantly fit right in. He loves coffee, but his love of service is what makes him shine and he’s impressed us every day with his ability to make everyone who comes through the door feel welcome.

We’re really very sad to see him go, but we know he’s going to be successful in all his future endeavours.

It’s his last shift today and we’re sure he’d love to see your shining faces if you have the chance to pop a head in and wish him well ✨

Being a stones throw from Heaton Park means we get plenty of (very welcome) dog visitors through our doors 🐕

We tempt them in with water bowls and delicious frozen yoghurt pup cups from our neighbours

☕️ A fresh drop from

Mozart - Colombia 🇨🇴
Raisin Honey processed Gesha, SL24, Typica
Tasting notes: Blueberry, Aperol, Lemongrass and Ginger tea
It’s juicy, it’s sweet and it’s floral. We reckon it’ll best served black, but if you try it with milk please let us know what you think.

La Danta - Peru 🇵🇪
Washed Catimor, Caturra, Bourbon, Pache
Tasting notes: Peach, Apple, Brown Sugar
This is a very clean and coherent field blend La Danta project. It’ll make a super easy drinking espresso for a nice sunny spring morning.

Intag Valley - Ecuador 🇪🇨
Washed Caturra, Typica, Bourbon
Tasting notes: Orange, Vanilla, Brown Sugar
A balanced but bright offering from a community led co-operative in the northern province’s Intag Valley. This was super fragrant when our staff cupped it last week, bringing bright and vibrant acidity while still maintaining a balanced body. Perfect for filter or a complex espresso.

🛍️ We’ve got a new drop of retail coffee coming this week from in Edinburgh. They’ve just had a fresh rebrand and we’re loving how it looks.

Marcia Tomizawa - Brazil 🇧🇷
Experimental Natural Geisha
Tasting notes: Pink Lady Apples, Golden Syrup, Red Berry
This one’s got an interesting expression of the Geisha varietal from Brazil, where geishas aren’t very common. It still has a rich robust quality that comes with a lot of Brazilian coffee due to its growing elevation, but the fermentation really brightens it up and keeps it fresh.

Dawn ‘Til Dusk - Colombia 🇨🇴
Washed Castillo, Caturra
Tasting notes: Dark Chocolate, Almond, Grapefruit
Our more traditional offering on the shelves. It’s got a lovely full bodied richness, while still maintaining a nice crisp acidity. Does what it says on the tin.

Sidney Kibet - Kenya 🇰🇪
Koji/Orange Co-fermented Batian, Ruiri 11
Tasting notes: Dark chocolate, Aperol, Candied Floral Finish
Great on filter if you’re up for trying something on the funkier, more fermented side. Very rare to find co-ferments and extended processing methods in Kenya and the results are juicy and wild.
