MOSS & EMBER WOULD LOVE YOUR THOUGHTS!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the next step for us and I’d really love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
If you’ve followed my journey, you’ll know that Moss & Ember was born from the closing of my old café [Bamfords in Maltby] 🤎
That chapter has now been buried back into the earth — and Moss & Ember is the rebirth that grew from it. 🌿🔥
I’ve been thinking about how to bring a little more baking back and I’d love to know what you’d like to see filling the shelves, bags and boxes.
At the moment, I’m mainly relying on buffet orders, but my heart is always happiest when I’m baking and cooking. I’d love to find a way to do a little more of what I love while creating a steadier rhythm for Moss & Ember as it continues to grow.
This would simply be a way for me to build my confidence and customer base again while Moss & Ember’s catering trailer, The Hearth, is being finished and prepared for life on the road. It would give me the chance to ease back into regular baking, reconnect with customers and grow things gradually, without rushing ahead before the trailer is fully operational.
The tricky bit is that Moss & Ember is still working from the café’s back kitchen rather than operating as a walk-in café, and I have no intention of reopening the café in that form. I feel that chapter has come to a natural close, and the calling for both myself and Moss now lies elsewhere.
I’m currently taking pre-orders with collection from the curbside of the cafe, but I’d love to bake more regularly and offer fresh, comforting bakes that are available on the day, it's just figuring out a way to offer this — the kind of things you can pick up for a slow morning, a cosy afternoon, or simply because you fancy something lovely.
Things like:
🥐 Pastries
🍪 Cookies
🍰 Traybakes
🥚 Fresh eggs
🍅 Chutneys & preserves
🥧 Sausage rolls, pies, family meals & bakes
🍞 Homemade bread
🤎 Seasonal specials
..and whatever else I’m feeling inspired to make that day.
One idea I’m considering is a secure Moss & Ember collection point at the side/rear of the building.
You’d order and pay online, and once your order was ready, you’d receive your own individual collection code. You’d use that code to access the collection unit, collect your labelled order and be on your way — no waiting around, no knocking on the door, and no need for me to be there at the exact moment you need to collect. 🤎
So I’d really love your thoughts. If you can, please answer these three quick questions:
1. 🤎 What would you most love to see Moss & Ember baking?
Pastries, cookies, cakes, savoury bakes, homemade bread, chutneys — or something completely different?
2. 🤎 Would you use a secure, pre-paid collection point?
A simple yes, no or maybe would be incredibly helpful.
3. 🤎 What would make ordering and collecting easy and appealing for you?
For example: collection times, weekly menus, online ordering, same-day availability, or something else.
And if you have another idea for how I could take Moss & Ember forward while I work towards getting The Hearth on the road, I’d genuinely love to hear it. Even a quick suggestion in the comments would mean so much.
Moss & Ember is what has grown from the ashes of a chapter that has now closed, and I’m excited to see what this next season becomes. 🌿
I’m figuring it out as I go, and your thoughts, encouragement and support really do mean the world.
🤎
