The Red Lion, Long Compton Welcome to The Red Lion, a dog-friendly country inn with rooms, renowned for consistently great food.
(713)

Originally built as a coaching inn in 1748, this Grade II listed free house is located in the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With tales of witches in the village and a nearby prehistoric stone circle (the Roll Right Stones), there is as much of interest to the historian as there is the tourist. Eat in the bar with its settles and inglenook fireplace, or the adjoining restaurant area, choosing from the seasonal menu. Options range from light bites, salads and sharing plates to hearty mains including cod and chips (gluten free option available) and a steak and Hook Norton pie. Wash down your meal of choice with a local real ale, your choice of wine from our carefully curated selection or one of the many options on our extensive 'nos & lows' list. The delightful individually styled seven en suite bedrooms have Egyptian cotton bed linen, luxury toiletries and fluffy towels, tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen televisions and hairdryers.

🐾 Meet Mars (7) and Rocket (8) the Long Haired Miniature Dachshunds 🐾

These gorgeous dogs visited us at the end of last month and won us over with their bog personalities. Mars is a sociable little thing and loves hanging out with humans. He's an accomplished climber and will happily scale a few obstacles to get to his people.

By contrast, Rocket thinks he is a person and will stand on his back legs to prove it 🀣. He has Cotswold dietary requirements down to a tee and his favourite sweet treat is a mango and passion fruit flavour vegan ice cream ball from Little Moons Mochi. We hope everything was up to scratch at The Red Lion for these discerning doggos when they visited and we hope they will be back for another inspection soon.

Sorry (not sorry 😜) for the overload of dog-related content on our feed at the moment. We just happen to have a lot going on for sociable doggos and their owners this autumn 🐾.

Join us on Sunday 18th October for a halloween-themed dog walk from The Red Lion b**r garden, followed by puppuccinos for all the dogs, to reward them for going on a long walk. Fancy dress for dogs and humans is strongly encouraged but not obligatory πŸŽƒπŸ§™β€β™‚οΈπŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈ.

This is a free event run by Tails on the Trails but spaces are limited, so book now via the link below:

🐾 Meet Mollie, the 9 & 1/2 year old Labradoodle 🐾

Mollie's mum, Ginny, brought her to Dog Day at the weekend, where she tried her paw at a few dog show classes, including the sausage catching and the golden oldie classes. She was a pretty good sausage catcher, but Einstien and Nala really stole the show in that discipline. She is still basking in the glory of getting second prize in the golden oldie class though and is considering requesting that her mum employs a butler, now that she's a local celebrity an' all 😁.

An easy going, happy dog, Mollie loves everybody, especially people with food in their hands. At breakfast time, she looks longingly at her mum's slice of toast in the hope that she will share it with her. There is nothing she particularly dislikes, unless you count people who are unaffected by her puppy dog eyes and refuse to share their food 🀣.

We loved having Mollie and her mum with us for Dog Day and we hope they will come back to compete in the dog show next year too.

We have some beautiful Lancia Augustas in the car park this lunchtime. Their owners are all meeting for a meal and one of them has driven all the way from Switzerland to attend. It was a pleasure to see these beautiful 1930s cars in the Warwickshire sunshine.

If you loved the canine party atmosphere of Dog Day and you happen to own a spaniel, you'll want to join us for Spaniel Fest in November.

We have had a lot of spaniels in The Red Lion garden over the years (like beautiful local, Dora, who modelled for us earlier in the year), but we want to see what happens when we have loads all at once.

With this in mind, we're organising a breed-specific meet up with Tails on the Trails, which will include a group dog walk from The Red Lion, a raffle in support of Spaniel Aid and training tips from our friends at Byron Dog Training.

All spaniels who attend will get a free puppuccio at the end of the walk and we're busy gathering some great raffle prizes and exclusive discount codes for attendees.
This is a free event but we need to know how many dogs and humans are coming for planning purposes, so please book via the link below:

https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tails-on-the-trails-the-red-lion-spaniel-fest-tickets-1998940416596?aff=oddtdtcreator

The raffle will be cash only and tickets are just Β£1 a strip, so bring a handful of loose change to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize.

We look forward to welcoming lots of spaniels and their accompanying humans to The Red Lion garden in November 😁.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to our three Dog Day photographers. All the images you see here are courtesy of Marek Jedrzejewski, but we have more to share over the coming days from the others. We think their work perfectly captures the fun we all had on Saturday, celebrating our wonderful canine companions and enjoying a bit of sausage catching in the sunshine.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Dog Day and to all the sponsors, volunteers and supporters who helped us to pull it together. Big shout out to the weather gods too, for getting it absolutely spot on 🌞!

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone from 11am 😁🐾.
