🦌🍃🫖I will be closing the tearoom on Sunday 30th August due to shortage of staff. I have been fortunate to have had a fantastic small group of young people 🤩 who have supported me through the summer season, but sadly they must return to school, university and more permanent employment. I am so grateful to my lovely retired mum and my amazing fiance, who have dropped everything and stepped in on many occasions to help out and cover staff absence. I couldn’t have continued this long without them 🥰 I am looking forward to a new exciting chapter, but the tearoom will always hold a very special place in my heart 💕
Thank you to the trustees of The Kirk who took the chance and trusted me to run the cafe with no prior experience. It was a steep but enjoyable learning curve!
Sincere thanks goes to the customers who have supported me the last couple of years. The tearoom wouldn’t be the special place it is without you all.
The gift shop has a closing down sale, so why not drop in next week for a cuppa and a browse🫖🍃🦌

ST CONAN’S KIRK, SCOTLAND

Nestled on the tranquil shores of Loch Awe in Argyll, St Conan’s Kirk is one of Scotland’s most distinctive and enchanting churches. Unlike any other, it was largely designed and built by a single man, Walter Douglas Campbell, between 1881 and 1886 as a place of worship for his mother, who struggled with the harsh climate of the Isle of Mull.
Rather than following a single architectural style, Campbell incorporated a fascinating blend of influences, including Norman, Gothic, Romanesque, Arts and Crafts, and even elements inspired by Robert the Bruce. This eclectic approach gives the kirk its fairy-tale appearance and makes it a true architectural gem.
One of the kirk’s most intriguing features is the Bruce Chapel, which is said to house a fragment of bone believed to belong to Robert the Bruce, the King of Scots. The church also includes a remarkable collection of carved stonework, stained glass windows, and unique details—such as a replica of the Stone of Destiny and a charming cloister offering stunning views over Loch Awe and the nearby Kilchurn Castle.
Walter Douglas Campbell continued to refine and expand the kirk throughout his lifetime, and after his death in 1914, his sister Helen Douglas Campbell oversaw its completion, with the building finally finished in 1930.
Today, St Conan’s Kirk is maintained by the St Conan’s Kirk Trust and welcomes visitors from around the world. It remains a peaceful sanctuary and a testament to one man’s vision, creativity, and devotion.
