Torcross Boathouse doors are closed for now, but Torcross is still very much open for business. 🌊

While we’re deep in prepping for renovations, we wanted to shine a light on the brilliant local businesses right on your doorstep.

Fancy a cuppa and a slice? The Billy Can has you covered.

Craving proper fish and chips by the sea? Head straight to The Start Bay Inn, you won’t be disappointed.

Looking to move your body and clear your head? Start Bay Studio has yoga classes ready and waiting.

And if you’re after a proper farm shop experience, Stokeley Farm Shop is worth the trip. Pick up something delicious to eat in or grab some incredible local produce to take home.

This part of South Devon is also holiday heaven, with accommodation options galore, there’s never been a better excuse to make a week of it. 🌿

This stretch of coastline is special, and it’s the people and businesses here that make it that way. We’re proud to be part of it.

The story of Torcross Boathouse ⛵️☕️

Rob spent a decade fishing for crab and lobster out of Salcombe before retraining as a boatbuilder, and in 2008 was named Trainee Boatbuilder of the Year. The Yawl he built he names ‘Blackback’ Y185

Then we discovered a little beach café for sale on the Torcross shoreline… and the rest is history. In 2010, local artist Paul Barclay created our iconic logo with Rob’s Yawl at its heart.

We’ve survived a restaurant fire, Covid and the 2018 storm. And now we are working to come back from the latest set of storms. It’s going to take some time but we hope to be back stronger than ever soon 🫶

Nothing has been decided about the road yet. The funding confirmed a few days ago is to put huge boulders in front of the sea wall to protect the houses along the front.

Like so many along this coastline, Torcross Boathouse is taking a moment to heal. 🌊

Katy and Rob are working hard behind the scenes to come back better than ever, and they genuinely cannot wait to welcome you back through the doors.

But we wanted you to know: Torcross and the surrounding village is still very much alive.

The community here is resilient, warm, and open for business. So if you were planning a visit, please don’t let this stop you.

There are still brilliant local businesses who would love to see you.

Katy, Rob and the whole Boathouse family thank you for every kind message, every share, and every bit of support. It means more than you know. But please just be patient with us while we wrap our heads around what has unfolded here and work to get us back open 🫶

We’ll keep you posted as we can but ask for you to support the businesses that have managed to weather the storm.
