Well here's your chance to find out thanks to the National Coastwatch Lottery, and it’s also a great way to support the charity, from £1 per week.
You will be helping to support our stations stay operational, keeping eyes along the coast, as the charity will receive min 50% of all proceeds.
All funds generated from the lottery help us to continue to develop and build upon our network of stations from where our 3,000+ wonderful volunteers who keep a daily visual and VHF radio listening watch for anyone in danger.

Good morning!!

With the summer holidays coming to an end and nights drawing in, there will probably still be the time to squeeze in a few more trips to the coast!

Before you make the most of those lovely summer days, take a moment to think about keeping the little ones safe by the sea. 👇

Keep them close
Children can disappear from view in seconds, especially on a busy beach. Keep younger children within arm’s reach near the water.

Watch out for the edges
Cliffs, harbour walls, rocks and slippery surfaces can all be dangerous. Keep children well away from edges and never assume a barrier makes an area completely safe.

Know what to do
Before you arrive, point out where the lifeguards are and agree on a meeting point in case anyone gets separated.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference. Have a fabulous Friday!

On Merchant Navy Day, National Coastwatch is proud to recognise the professionalism, dedication and vital contribution of the Merchant Navy.

The Merchant Navy plays an essential role in supporting trade, transporting vital goods and keeping the UK connected with the rest of the world.

Much of this activity goes unnoticed by those on shore. But from National Coastwatch stations around the coast, our volunteer watchkeepers see the wide range of vessels and activities taking place on our waters every day, including the Merchant Navy vessels that play such an important role in our lives.

Today is an opportunity to recognise those who currently serve, as well as the generations of Merchant Navy personnel who have served before them.

Thank you for everything you do.

If you’re heading out this bank holiday, plan your route home and stay away from the water if you’ve been drinking.

Alcohol can affect your judgement, slow your reaction time and make it much harder to swim or climb out if you end up in the water. There may also be hidden dangers below the surface that you can’t see.

Look after yourself and your friends. Never walk home alone.

Good morning!!

We'll be sharing a weekly coast safety tip every Friday morning over the next few weeks. And to start things off, we're talking about our best friends! 🐶

A trip to the coast is great fun for dogs, but the sea, cliffs, rocks and strong currents can all present hidden dangers.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your dog safe:

🐕 Keep your dog on a lead near cliff edges and areas with strong currents.

🌊 Be careful around the water — even dogs who are confident swimmers can get caught out by waves, tides and currents.

☀️ Watch the weather — hot sand and pavements can burn paws, while warm weather can quickly lead to overheating.

And remember, if your dog does get into difficulty in the water, don't put yourself at risk trying to rescue them. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

A safe walk is a happy walk — for you and your best friend.

Be bright, be seen 🩷

See how much easier it is to spot someone in the water?

Wearing bright colours such as neon yellow, green, orange and pink can improve your visibility in the water and make it easier for others to spot you if you get into difficulty.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
