Eat at A's

Eat at A's Home Cooked Oriental Food from My Kitchen to Your Table Eat has been created to share my love of cooking and baking.

I grew up in a Chinese takeaway, in my teens I worked at my grandparents takeaway, taking orders whilst doing my homework. When dinner was ready all the kids would sit and eat, we played and slept at the takeaway until parents were finished - 2am mostly! My parents opened their own takeaway in my late teens and I had to start learning how to cook because I had to pick up my brother and sister from

school and get dinner ready whilst my parents were at work. My mum would prepare the dishes and I would finish cooking them. In the weekends we were all at the takeaway, after picking my siblings we'd be travelling on the train and head to work. 1st thing I learnt was how to make fried rice and rice went EVERYWHERE, at one point there was more rice on the floor than in the wok 🀣🀭 - back then (seriously) didn't actually realise I could cook, it just happened. When it got busy, I would be cooking 2 different dishes at once and thinking about it, we were a bit like robots - forget the gym, go work in a Chinese takeaway 🀭

I've made plenty of dishes that TOTALLY SUCK (still do) - but I also took for granted what I was taught back then - until now! I'm still learning and every time I go back to my parents, I take away a little more knowledge. I love cooking, baking and creating things that put smiles on faces - I'm a total feeder πŸ˜† food solves most problems, well that's what most Chinese people would say! Chinese people would never say 'love you' or show affection - they would say 'I make you something special to eat' 😜🀭

Good home cooked food like like a warm hug!

So this is the result of the gluten free char Sui bao that I tried to make. It's not quite there yet but for a first try, it wasn't a disaster!

Filling needs more sauce & seasoning, deffo needed more proving (I'm not very patient!) and the bao needed more sugar but we're getting there!

Lots to think about in round 2...

The questions in my mind that sometimes make me question myself:
1) did the order arrive ok?
2) are the recipe cards easy to follow
3) what others think of my food

Then you get a response like this and ferociously do the super happy dance.

Massively missing the traditional char Sui bao (roast pork bao buns). These are juicy roast pork char Sui, encased in a sweet bread dough and steamed. I've never made bao (I'm terrible at making bread!) but since I made a tray full of char Sui for the store, I thought I'd use up end bits to make this using a flour blend from ... My pleating skills πŸ’― needs work, come back later to see how it turned out!

Running a micro business has its perks, but then life happens and the business has to stop😭

This isn't an excuse but more of an apology, whilst my food was slowly picking up something gets thrown at me!

SORRY to all the people who have been waiting, checking out my website and those who have messaged me.

We will get there step by step but honestly just wanted to update on the quietness πŸ₯΄πŸ€πŸ«‘

Stay happy, stay healthy and Chinese food meals coming your way!
