Our free-range pork and prawn wontons started with Andrew’s mum, who still makes them for the family every Christmas Eve.

Now they’ve found their way onto the Brother Thai menu, and they’re just perfect with a cold Singha 🍺

Nobody knows the Brother Thai menu better than the people who serve it every day… but can they agree on the best dish? Absolutely not.

Here are some of our Stokes Croft team’s favourites!

The Sticky Beef Roti. You won’t find it in Bangkok but the flavours will bring you there.

It’s unmistakably Brother Thai.

Here’s how our signature Brother Thai roti comes together!

Date night. Mate date. Birthday dinner. B**r & a bite. Big catch-up. “Can’t be bothered to cook”.

Always a good reason to grab a Brother Thai 🇹🇭

Build your table at Brother Thai 🇹🇭

Something crispy. Something saucy. Plenty for dipping, dunking and fighting over. Then one more side because you definitely didn’t order enough.

However you do it, trust us - NEVER share your Brother Thai Roti! 🙅

When your non-Insta foodie friend says “I’ve been three times already, it’s THAT good”… expectations are officially high 👀 Brother Thai (Ad)

The term “influencer” can have some negative connotations these days (I prefer blogger, FYI 😅) and even I can be sceptical of ‘hype’... So I’ll often run new openings past my friend Sarah, whose judgement I really trust 🫶 From Michelin-starred meals to street food, she’s done it all. Her response to Brother Thai? “I’ve already been three times!”

No pressure for my visit then 😂 Thankfully… she was right.
Brother Thai on Stokes Croft is bright, colourful and funky, with fresh Thai aromas filling the restaurant 🤤 And as someone who lived in Thailand for six months, I will say this isn’t ‘traditional’ but it absolutely captures the essence 🇹🇭

Everything tasted fresh and vibrant and made your eyes widen with that first bite. Highlights included:

🥟 The pork & prawn wontons came with a thick, sticky sweet chilli sauce that had more depth than your regular variety.

🍚 The rice bowl was HUGE, with plenty of (10/10) fried chicken and a fantastic rich, nutty, creamy satay sauce.

But the star…

THE ROTI. 🤩

A flaky paratha loaded with ajat slaw, herbs, Sriracha and Sriracha mayo, folded like a taco. We chose Sticky Spicy Beef and it was crispy, flaky, fresh, spicy, sticky and messy in all the right ways. Did I eat anything like it when I lived in Thailand? Nope 😂 Did I care? Also nope!

Cocktails came with a Thai twist, and whilst the Phed Mak Marg didn’t quite land for me (the spice felt unbalanced between the rim and drink) I loved the Tuk Tuk Tequila 😍 And another reason this Welshie gives Brother Thai bonus points? It has Welsh roots too 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Brother Thai is a Cardiff-born indie, started by Andrew as a pop-up at DEPOT in 2015. From there it grew through Cardiff’s street-food scene, festivals & markets, with its signature rotis becoming the dish it’s now known for, before opening its first permanent restaurant on Whitchurch Road in 2021 🎉

It ticks all the boxes in what I’m looking for in a restaurant 🔥 Have you been yet?!
