I made a batch of Eryri soap this week. I always get asked how I shape the mountains, so instead of showing the full pour from start to finish, I thought I’d show you 45 mins of mountain shaping condensed into 90 or so seconds… It’s all done by hand and by eye - no scrapers - which is why no two bars ever look the same. Once I’m happy with the mountains I pour in the sky and clouds and they’re done 🙌

There’s a snippet of the cut at the end, for anyone not familiar with the bar or can’t picture what it looks like cut. I don’t have any more to share because someone called me and I forgot to restart the recording afterwards 🙈😩

In the meantime, here’s a palate cleansing bar of Fresca, this season’s second-best selling variety and full of gorgeous oils and butters to take away the bitterness of this morning’s FB post 😆 (If you’ve not seen it yet go take a look, it’s an eye opener!)

Morning all! This wasn’t what I’d planned to share this morning but it’s brought up so many points for for me, not just the post itself but the various comments below it (click the link below to read the comments)

There are so many things I want to say about this but I’m going to stick to just one issue per post - there may be a few related posts over the coming weeks 😂😂

In a nutshell, the post I’ve linked below has been shared on Mumsnet (who have then shared it on FB) by someone whose dilemma is this: Their husband wants to use a bar of Imperial Leather soap in the bathroom, the poster wants to use a bar of Jo Malone soap. (For the purpose of this post we’re just going to gloss the fact that they could, assuming money is no object - which it doesn’t seem to be - just have a bar each 🙄)

Imperial Leather Soap 125g-175g costs £0.50 - £1.00 a bar
Jo Malone Soap 100g costs £20 a bar

Imperial Leather ingredients (first image) - pretty standard cheap soap stuff - mostly palm oil.

Jo Malone soap ingredients (second image) - umm, ditto above with the addition of a very small amount of Shea butter (according to its position in the ingredients list)

Please, help me make it make sense… 😂

I know, I know, it’s marketing 🙈 But how do I, a lowly cash-strapped soapmaker using genuinely premium ingredients (that I can 100% guarantee you cost way more than those in the bars above) persuade people that my soap is better than big-name soap? And to trust me enough to spend their hard earned cash trying it? Answers on a postcard please 😅🙈

The cut of the messy messy pour I shared this morning - a little bit from all eight loaves.

Llechen Las (Blue Slate) is *supposedly* a man’s scent but I know for a fact that women love it too - cos they tell me so, and I’m also one 😂

If you’re after a last minute Fathers’ Day gift, this would be my first recommendation every single time

It’s about to get MESSY 😳😂

and today it’s the turn of Llechen Las (Blue Slate), made towards the end of last week. This fragrance speeds things up A LOT, as you’ll see…

I’ll share the cut later today.

Roll-call! Hands up if you use solid soap in the shower 🙋🏼‍♀️

Weirdly, solid soap still has a reputation with some people as being “just for hands” (as if it stops working from the wrists up?!), but my bars are made to be used all over 😉

Trust me, it’s going to leave your skin feeling so much better than it does after using a commercially-made gel or liquid.

You know me by now, I’m not going to bang on about synthetic chemicals - they have their place and, provided you buy from a reputable company, all ingredients will have been rigorously tested and approved skin-safe. BUT, that’s not to say they’ll be gentle, or non-irritating, or won’t induce a case of the itchies…

My soap is gentle and won’t irritate, because it’s packed with nourishing oils and butters that actually soothe your skin rather than strip it bare.

You might be surprised how much you don’t miss the bottle 😉

Just a little summer specials update for you! ☀️

We’re now ten days on from launch day and, if my maths is correct (always a risky statement 😆) just over two thirds of the bars have already found new homes.

Of the original 75 bars of each, there are now:

🍏 Pomona – 16 left
🍋 Fresca – 18 left
🍓 Strawbella – 23 left
🐝 Beelicious – 24 left
⛈️ Tempest – 28 left
🍑 Just Peachy – 30 left

I genuinely didn’t know whether making more than double the number of bars compared to the spring launch was a sensible idea or a moment of complete madness.

Thankfully, it seems to have been the former. 😅

There are still plenty of most varieties available on the website but Pomona and Fresca are currently the ones to watch. If you have your eyes on one of those - don’t risk missing out.

It’s Monday, the sun is shining, and I nothing much to say other than today is another soapmaking day (hooray!) and today I shall mostly be making Eryri. Wish me luck!

Hope Monday treats you well!
