The Ship

#

What is dying
I am standing on the seashore, a ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till at last she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says: "She is gone."
Gone!
Where
Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says,
"She is gone"
there are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout:
"There she comes!"
and that is dying.

Many a time I've read this at a funeral, love it 💜🙏💜

💗 Baby Loss Awareness Week 💗
🕊️ 9th–15th October

This week, we remember the babies who were loved beyond words but whose time with us was far too short. 🤍

We remember the tiny hands & toes, the dreams we held, the futures we imagined, and the little lives that changed our lives forever.

Behind every loss is a story. A mother, a father, a family, and a love that will never fade. Some losses are spoken about openly, while others are carried silently in everyday life.

To every parent who has experienced baby loss, whether through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or in infancy, your baby matters, your grief matters, and your love will always matter. 💫

You are not alone, and you never have to justify your grief or the time it takes. Your baby will always be part of your story, no matter how brief their time here was.

This week, we hold space for every angel baby, every broken heart and every parent who wishes they could hold their little one just one more time. 🦋

Gone too soon, loved forever, remembered always. 🤍

Light a candle, say their name, share their story, or simply hold them close in your heart. Every baby deserves to be remembered, and every grieving parent deserves to feel seen.

🕯️I will be lighting a candle for all the babies gone too soon and sending love to every family carrying an invisible heartbreak.

Please leave the name of your baby or child if you want. We will hold this space for them.

YouAreNotAlone GoneTooSoonNeverForgotten 🤍🕊️

This makes me sad and angry, this is not caring for the deceased, it is undignified and just a conveyor belt. I hope people see that those faceless, online companies that target the elderly with their constant adverts, this is where they go. Horrible.

A lovely 5 🌟 review left for me on Google, from another lovely family.

It always means the absolute world to me, when I get feedback. Whether its a text, a call, a card or a review.

Thank you from the bottom of my ❤️

I think grief is a little like being in a crowded street, constantly looking for someone you love.

You search through all the faces, half expecting to see them. And sometimes, for just a moment, you do. You catch a glimpse of them ahead of you, you see the back of their head, the way they walk, something so familiar that your heart immediately knows it’s them.

So you follow.

You try to catch up. You want to call out, "Wait. Stop. Slow down. Let me catch you.!"

But by the time you reach the corner, they’ve already turned it.

You hurry after them, hoping that when you turn the corner, and they’ll still be there. And for a second, you see them again, but they are already walking away, already disappearing around another corner.

And they’re gone.

That’s what grief feels like to me.

It’s not simply missing someone. It’s constantly looking for them. In crowds.

It’s the strange, aching feeling that they are always just ahead of you, always almost within reach. But not.

You keep thinking, 'If I could just get to them. If I could just make them stop for a moment. If I could just say their name'.

But you can’t.

They keep disappearing around corners you cannot follow them around.

And perhaps the hardest part is that some part of you never stops looking.

You know, somewhere deep down, that you will not find them standing there waiting for you. You know they are gone. But your heart doesn’t always understand what your mind knows.

So you keep looking.

You catch glimpses of them in the shape of someone walking ahead of you.

And every time, for just a moment, your heart thinks:

There you are.

And then, once again, they turn the corner.
