Shop4Rwanda

Shop4Rwanda Shop4Rwanda is Rwandan Youth Information Community Organisation (rYico) 's online shop. For more information visit http://www.shop4rwanda.com/

Through the shop rYico sells products made by young people at Centre Marembo in Kigali. Shop4Rwanda is the charity’s retail outlet for the crafts that former street children make as part of their vocational skills classes at Centre Marembo in Kigali, Rwanda. This is where dedicated staff help turn homeless children’s lives around by taking them off the streets and bringing them into a secure, lovi

ng and mutually respectful environment. Through the teaching of vocational skills such as tailoring, weaving and car mechanics, the children can leave the project with a strong understanding of the job market and the potential to create an income for themselves. As more and more children come through our doors looking for a way out of poverty, exploitation and life on the streets, so the shop4rwanda project grows. Exciting new crafts are now constantly being added to the shop, which in turn generates money that helps sustain the charity’s projects on the ground in Rwanda. By making a purchase at Shop4Rwanda you are making a conscious contribution to reducing the suffering of others; lifting the young people of Kigali out of poverty and actively participating in – trade not aid!

A British film institute winner is making a short animated film for rYico about the boys who live at Umugongo House and we are looking for young Rwandans living in the South East who would be interested in reading some transcripts in English of the boys accounts in Kinyarwanda that we can dub onto the anomation. If there is anyone interested could they please message me for more details.
Thanks Ray

Andy Boyd is visiting Kigali at the end of the month. Andy has proved to be a dedicated friend and supporter of rYico and the projects in Kigali for many years now. He has recently set-up a just giving page to help raise funds for building a new Umugongo House for boys on Centre Marembo's new piece of land. And a volunteer team from the architectural Department at the University of Brighton are designing the building. If you can spare a couple of quid (or more!) please visit his page on the link below:
