Billingshurst Community Larder

Billingshurst Community Larder Billingshurst Community Larder's priority is to prevent food waste and distribute USABLE food to our community.

All adults are welcome to collect free food - children must be accompanied. We are unable to admit Weald School students to the larder. The Billingshurst Community Larder is supported by:

The Billingshurst Community Partnership (BCP) and Billigreen
The Weald School

The group consists of volunteers who help with the following tasks;

Food collection and handling - driving to the retailer or othe

r outlet to collect and load food; taking to our distribution point to unload and store correctly. Food display and distribution - setting up the donated food ready for the public distribution session. Cleaning and ensuring that everything is hygienic and safe. Our volunteers have had Food Handling and Hygiene training and training will be available for future volunteers. Manual Handling training will be given to those who need it. The Larder is registered as a food business and carries appropriate insurance.

Just a reminder - the Larder opens every Weds in August at 9 am until 11 am. This is due to the hot weather we have been experiencing. As always, all are welcome to come to collect free food usually featuring bread, pastries, sundry groceries and greengrocery items. Watch out for our early morning posts about what has been collected from our fab retail partners at Lidl, Sainsbury's and Tesco.

IMPORTANT. Due to ongoing hot weather, the Billingshurst Community Larder will open from 9 am until 11 am in August. All are welcome to collect free food, although children must be supervised. Come and find us at School House on the Weald Campus. Bring bags for your items and bakery.

Important! The Billingshurst Community Larder will open EARLY tomorrow from 9 am until 11 am as a very hot day is forecast.

Please note that the Larder is entirely volunteer-led with food collected and distributed for the benefit of the whole community. The core principle is to save usable food from landfill, and we have successfully saved and distributed tonnes of food. We are grateful for the support we have received from local retailers including Lidl GB Sainsbury's and Tesco. And for the use of School House by The Weald School. Billingshurst Community Partnership is responsible for the management of the Larder.

New visitors are always welcome to come and collect free food - children must be supervised. Don't forget a shopping bag and small bags for loose goods.
