Some mornings start at the market instead of underwater.

On the menu this week: zucchini flowers stuffed with sausage meat, Greek ricotta, confit peppers and oven-dried tomatoes. Pan-fried in butter, finished with a few shavings of aged Greek cheese.

Certains matins commencent au marché plutôt que sous l’eau.

Au menu cette semaine : fleurs de courgette farcies à la chair à saucisse, ricotta grecque, poivrons confits et tomates séchées au four. Grillées au beurre, terminées de quelques copeaux de fromage grec affiné.

Today was a Try Scuba session with an amazing family! Guiding these two young divers (9 & 10 years old) with their dad right behind, topped off with a great Lionfish encounter.
Une première bulle, un premier émerveillement. 🌊✨
Aujourd’hui, c’était baptême de plongée (Try Scuba) pour une famille formidable ! Accompagner ces deux jeunes plongeurs (9 et 10 ans) et leur papa juste derrière, avec une belle rencontre avec un Poisson-lion en prime.

Une rencontre majestueuse, mais… poisson-lion ou pas poisson-lion ? 🦁🌊

La prolifération du poisson-lion en Méditerranée est bien réelle. Ces créatures magnifiques, mais redoutables, se répandent rapidement et exercent une pression croissante sur les écosystèmes et les espèces locales.

Ici, je l’observe de près sur le site de Mononaftis. Plonger avec Between Fire and Blue, c’est aussi être témoin de ces changements d’écosystème et contribuer à mieux les comprendre.

Observer et comprendre est la première étape vers la protection. Et vous, que pensez-vous du poisson-lion ? 🦁

A majestic encounter, but… lionfish or not lionfish? 🦁🌊

The spread of lionfish in the Mediterranean is very real. These beautiful yet formidable creatures are rapidly expanding their range and placing increasing pressure on local ecosystems and species.

Here, I observe one up close at the Mononaftis dive site. Diving with Between Fire and Blue also means witnessing these ecosystem changes and contributing to a better understanding of them.

Observing and understanding is the first step towards protection. What are your thoughts on lionfish? 🦁

The Byron I: From 1980 shipwreck to artificial reef. ⚓️🌊

In January 1980, this 100-meter freighter carrying 11,000 tons of sugar ran aground off Crete. Today, time and the Mediterranean Sea have transformed its massive steel structure into a thriving underwater sanctuary.

Exploring the Byron I means navigating through imposing engine blocks, collapsed decks, and encountering vibrant marine life in every shadow.

Le Byron I : Du naufrage de 1980 au récif artificiel. ⚓️🌊

En janvier 1980, ce cargo de 100 mètres chargé de 11 000 tonnes de sucre s’échouait au large de la Crète. Aujourd’hui, le temps et la Méditerranée ont métamorphosé sa structure d’acier en un sanctuaire sous-marin spectaculaire.

Plonger sur le Byron I, c’est explorer d’imposants blocs moteurs, des ponts effondrés et une vie marine fascinante nichée dans l’ombre des tôles.
