This is a prayer and a plea to be safe and to think of others during this very risky time....we have been SO lucky for the last year to socialize, mingle and not have to worry about the Corona Virus.

Until now.... we have gone from being Covid-free for a year to 51 active cases in 2 weeks. There are many who believed that Fiji had a special blessing from God and that it was not possible to get into a dire situation like other countries.

Now we know that this is not the case. This is the critical time to act. If there is no host, the virus cannot spread. There are still huge birthday parties going on, kava parties, drunkards mingling at all hours of the night. This is no secret.....We can do better than this. Look at our friends in India, PNG, Brazil, the United States.......they too believed it could not happen there. Not to mention we have the deadlier Indian variant that has made it's way into our tiny island nation....

We have to be realistic since we have a huge amount of NCDs like diabetes, heart disease, gout etc which means immune systems are compromised.......poverty and a lack of access to really clean sanitation along with living situations that are often over-crowded....this increases our risk exponentially.

We don't need to live in fear....we just need to wake up and use common sense......don't politicize any of it.... stay away from groups, wear your mask, use your Fiji Care App and hand sanitizer. Sacrifice that night of takis for the benefit of our nation and people as a whole.

Many of us are close to losing our businesses. Many are unemployed. This is heart breaking. So let's knock this virus out of the park and do what we need to do to get back on track.
