The Jewel in the Crown of Playa Blanca
Amongst many other events, 2020 saw the grand opening of Playa Blanca's most decadent arrival on the Indian restaurant scene; Indian Delights. Our centrally located eatery, in the very heart of the ‘pueblo', boasts stunning panoramic views over the ocean and the town beach, and beautiful jewel toned decor throughout the venue. Most importantly of all, our fo
cus is on a menu that's been painstakingly put together using only authentic ingredients and cooking methods, faithfully replicating the Southern Indian dishes from our founder Ramesh’s upbringing. Alongside his wife Saraswati, whom he describes as ‘an excellent cook’, Ramesh hopes to put some of his own favourite dishes from his childhood, as well as those from other regions of India, firmly on the map right here in Lanzarote - taking customers on an exciting culinary journey. Indeed, in parts of the restaurant, you could almost be forgiven for thinking that you were, in fact, in an Emperor’s palatial home. As well as the glittering golden elephants, and statues of Ganesha and Buddha that you might come to expect in an Indian restaurant, there are some perhaps more surprising features, including a mural of the Taj Mahal, and a floor-to-ceiling palace fresco! Made to order and brought over especially from India, the fresco, complete with pillars and a plush looking sofa, is in fact 3D, and we love nothing more than to invite our guests to take their photographs in front of it. For those of you who just can’t resist finishing off the look with real authenticity, there’s even a fancy dress box, and a whole row of hats, to try on for the perfect regal photo finish! It’s our cherished hope to establish Indian Delights as the destination of choice for Indian food lovers, whether here on holiday, or resident on the island. With a comprehensive menu incorporating dishes from each of the compass points in India, the couple have curated a selection of dishes from their country’s expansive cuisine - reflecting both Ramesh’s Southern Indian heritage and Saraswati’s Western, and bringing them right into their kitchen in Playa Blanca. But above all, our passion is for giving customers the very best experience possible, from the minute they walk through the door, until they’re trying on those hats.
