For SMG’s new automotive division, better known for their brands AutoScout24 and CAR FOR YOU, we planned and ran their first joint team offsite, the Automotive Rally, during a time of change and uncertainty.

After 3 days spent together, meeting each other in person for the first time, racing their self-built rally soapbox cars, opening up about topics that weighed on their minds, hiking, climbing, and even taking a dip in the river with alpacas, exploring meaningful ways to tackle challenges, partying all night (that infamous after-hours session in a newly-built underground car park), and discovering each other's hidden talents in a final open space, a team with new, warm bonds travelled home.

From finding the right location (a hotel so new, it was not even open yet) to connecting management with a trusted facilitator from our network, to organizing a range of activities all over the valley in the off-season, two party nights, and every small detail that happens before and during an event with 120 participants who traveled in from various countries across Europe, with one part of the team even from as far away as Vietnam.

Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Wingtra is the world’s leading VTOL drone producer for mapping, surveying and mining professionals. We have been in charge of Wingtra’s workspaces ever since they grew out of their first office at ETH back in 2017. Over the years we have iterated and extended their Zurich office almost every year. In 2022, it was time to add another floor of 500m2 where all developer teams could work next to each other.

For this project, we increased our focus on practices, such as reusing existing materials and structures and sourcing products made from post-consumer recycled material or material that would otherwise have been thrown away or recycled.
Some examples:
- demounted and remounted some of the 1990s glass partition walls
- reused plasterboard and timber cut-offs from former stages of the project.
- re-decorated broken old ugly whiteboards with new frames
- used existing partitions to add new focus rooms onto
- tabletops where sourced and cut to size from the manufacturers rejects, that would otherwise have been shredded and burned
- sourced a large badge of high quality used office chairs
- new products (such as bar stools) would have to be sustainably produced in Europe from European material, if somehow possible at all
- we pioneered the use of 80% recycled acoustic foam as open wall cladding (currently no 100% recycled ones available and the German manufacturer told us it had so far only been used hidden inside other materials) .. the list could go on, on and on.

Some things were easier to do than others, but all in all we are proud of every bit of material or furniture that was reused. Our minds are set to do even better next time, working even more with platforms such as , discovering more European producers for those parts we were yet unable to source locally.

Tonight is movie night! Legler Areal is starring in FRIEDEN, a drama series in 6 episodes shedding light on Switzerland in the aftermath of WWII. It’s the Swiss TV’s most expensive production to date and that’s easy to believe, having witnessed the incredible amount of detail that went into the set and costume design. Legler Areal was only one of many locations, but over the course of 6 weeks the factory was taken back into a hypothetical past and then looked as if operations had never stopped. Magical!

What a team! It was a pleasure to take this smart, kind & wild crowd of Smallpdf on yet another adventure this week. We love you guys!

With a team of 50+ people, of which many work remotely, it‘s key to regularly spend a few days together. Taking time to meet new team members, to align on strategy & values and also to have fun. Retreats are time well invested as they have a big impact how individuals connect and interact as a team.

As a bonus random conversations that no one would ever have anticipated might come to prove game changing. And then there‘s of course pretty videos like this one here. :) Thanks to Flavio from Smallpdf for sharing it!

Wow, was für zwei Tage! Danke Für Eure Besuche! Es war toll. Morgen bleibt die Beiz GESCHLOSSEN, weil es regnet und ihr heute tatsächlich alles Bier ausgetrunken habt! 🙂 Wir überlegen aber, ob wir Euch im Winter mal etwas schönes anbieten können. Diesen Freitag ab 17 Uhr bis Sonntag um 20 Uhr haben wir unsere Gartenbeiz im Legler Areal für Euch geöffnet!

Wir braten Euch unseren saftigen Pfirsich-Süsskartoffel Burger (vegan) oder eine würzige Schweinswurst und servieren eine kleine Mezzeplatte zum Aperol Spritz. Unsere hausgemachte Wasserkefirlimonade mit Pfirsich und Zitronenmelisse begeistert Kinder und Erwachsene gleichermassen, was uns schüli freut. Ausprobieren!

Sollte doch mal ein Regenschauer durchs Tal ziehen haben wir auch ein trockenes Plätzchen für Euch und wenn der Abendwind langsam frisch wird, legen wir Euch eine Wolldecke um die Schultern.

SOMMERBEIZ VERSCHOBEN: Wer sitzt schon gern bei 13 Grad und Regen in der Gartenbeiz? Die Wetterprognose hat uns schlussendlich bewogen die Sommerbeiz um eine Woche zu verschieben. Nun hoffen wir, dass vom 4.-6. September die Sonne wieder scheint! Wir halten Euch auf dem Laufenden!

Es war so schön! 3 sonnengeküsste Tage, so viele liebe, lustige und fröhliche Gäste, herrlich saftige Pfirsichburger und allgemeine Ferienstimmung. Unsere Popup Gartenwirtschaft im Legler Areal hat rundum viel Freude gemacht und drum wollen wir Ende Juli und Ende August jeweils wieder für ein Wochenende öffnen.
