Come try Carrizal, an approachable and delicious cup from renowned and award winning Guatemalan coffee producer Ricardo Zelaya.

Full bodied and balanced with flavours of milk chocolate, praline and caramel.

Carrizal is located in a remote region in Eastern Guatemala, close to the Honduran border. The name refers to the Carrizo trees that grow in the area. Ricardo’s family has grown coffee here for four generations and is now his largest, most productive, farm allowing him to produce great value without sacrificing quality.

We’ve roasted and served Carrizal since 2009. This perennial favourite is made possible due to Ricardo’s ongoing commitment to coffee quality, sustainable farming practices, as well as his investment in the people that contribute to each aspect of his business and the local community.

When you purchase this coffee you are not only drinking better quality, you are supporting social initiatives including health workshops for farm workers, workshops for women to earn more income in the coffee off season, a Scholarship Fund which provides financial support for farm worker children, and supporting a coffee school with the aim of training the next generation of coffee professionals.

With flavours of key lime pie, peach candy, bergamot and jasmine florals, try not to smile when you taste this coffee.

Join us for our free public tasting this Friday, at 2pm.

South of Shantawene village in the Sidama region we bring an offering from the Ayla washing station, care of Testi Specialty Coffees.

‘Testi’ is the local Harrari word for happiness, as well as the name of the coffee processing and exporting company established by Faysel Abdosh. The company’s mission is not only to produce exceptional quality coffee, but also to give back to those who play a major role in growing and cultivating the coffee.

Initiatives include :
• paying higher prices for coffee cherry
• building primary schools in the area where they fund all school supplies
• provide financial support and scholarships to top performing students
• Helping communities access clean water and electricity in the remote areas around their washing stations

This surface-ripened cheese transforms with age and makes the PERFECT fondue cheese. Rustique starts off as mild and firm. As it gets older, it becomes more rich, intense, and creamy. Pop it in the oven for 10 minutes and you got yourself a slightly stinky fondue perfect for bread-dipping! 🫕

What do we mean by “surface ripened” cheese? Basically, the bacteria and microbes are introduced to the outside of the cheese and slowly make their way in. The rind on this particular cheese is edible, giving it a bloomy and slightly earthy flavour. As the cheese ages, the texture becomes creamier.

This particular batch we have is young but is just getting to that “ripened” stage. Pick one up for your next cozy night in! 🍂
