MEET KATLEGO LETSEBE, FOUNDER OF CONFECTIONS BY KATLIE, GABORONE TECHNICAL COLLEGE ALUMNI
Katlego Letsebe is a 25-year-old, all-round professional chef and a proud alumna of Gaborone Technical College, where she completed a Diploma in Culinary Arts. During her time at the college, her training equipped her with the essential practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge required to navigate the competitive food industry. This solid foundation enabled her to transition from a student to a business owner, leading to the establishment of Confections by Katlie in Mogoditshane.
Since 2022, Katlego has operated her business with a focus on cakes, pastries, and comprehensive culinary services. She has successfully transitioned her startup into a recognized brand through strategic collaborations with clients such as Sefalana Botswana, JCB Botswana, and Kwa Nokeng Oils, maintained through a relentless focus on customer satisfaction. Her professional journey is defined by a commitment to continuous skill development and innovation. Beyond her own business growth, she is deeply committed to mentoring aspiring chefs, providing them with employment opportunities and sharing the technical expertise she gained during her studies.
Katlego’s excellence has been recognized on both local and international stages. Most notably, in 2023, she represented Botswana in the finals of the Taste of Hilton Flavor and Flair competition, covering Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. She secured 3rd place and was honored as the "Most Valuable Player" for her ability to turn local Setswana ingredients like korong, morogo wa dinawa, and dinawa into luxury dishes. Her career highlights reflect a perfect blend of technical mastery, creativity, and strong business management.
To the next generation of students, Katlego believes that TVET programs are the key to unlocking careers as business owners and industry leaders. Her message to aspiring professionals is to remain dedicated to mastering their craft and to embrace every challenge with patience and hard work. By turning her education into a successful career, she continues to prove that dedication to one's skills can lead to extraordinary heights.
