Sunshine Coast Coffee Review

Sunshine Coast Coffee Review My very self centered and inherently biased reviews of Sunshine Coast Cappucino's, so I know where t

Hanging at Archer Specialty Coffee in the Sunshine Plaza today.

The barista knows his coffee and even happy to recommend the bean based on your preferred style of coffee.

Am impressed. Best coffee I've had in Queensland.

Customer Service: 5. Friendly and knowledgable.
Speed of Service: 5 Didn't even get a chance to open FB on my phone and my coffee was with me.
Quality of coffee: 5 robust, and full flavoured with just the perfect bitterness on the tongue. I could mainline this stuff.

Yummo

Ok, back for some more completely self centred coffee reviews.

This time Booking Box at Mooloolaba wharf, because it's next to the dive shop and Ninth Street doesn't do coffee.

Pretty good start to this tour of duty. Robust, a good hit of bitterness, that mellow nicely.

Service: 4. Lovely lass, with a great selection of sugary goodness (though I resisted temptation)
Coffee: solid 4. One of the better that I've found on the Sunshine coast. I'll be back if I'm in the area.
Speed: 5. Speedy and delicious.

The Compass Garden Cafe in the Maroochy Botanic Gardens gets my patronage this morning. This is one of my favourite cafe's to visit. It is staffed by people from Compass Inc and the atmosphere is amazing. Always kind and such interesting conversations. I happened upon rush hour this morning, but the wait is always a pleasure here.

The coffee here has always been pretty good, but I overheard that they had received tly changed roasters, and OMG, this coffee is amazing. A pleasant blunt bitterness that prepares the mouth for the full bodied, well rounded coffee that follows.

Service speed: 4/5. Rush hour was keeping them busy.
Service quality 5/5, best ever.
Coffee: 5/5. Stick with the new roaster. It's stellar.

Second coffee review today at Taste This. Big bold coffee. It says Elixer Coffee Roasters on the cup. Dunno if this is what they use, but the coffee is the kind that runs you down and then reverses over you, in a kind of St Bernard wanting to give you a hug kind of way. A solid bitterness when you first embrace, but that gives way to the rough and tumble of what comes next.

Better than average customer service and I'm helpfully informed that they make their treats on the premises. Not quite Mary St Bakery level of indulgence, but their jam drop was fresh and delicious and quite messy.

Speed of service: 3/5. Good coffee delivery time
Quality of service: 4/5. Light banter while waiting
Coffee: 4/5. Strong and solid.

I saw a pizzeria/cafe called Flume on my hike today, so I thought I should give it a go.

Unfortunately the coffee was sub par. A bit of a burnt taste up front and it wasn't even followed through by a full body. Another of those coffee's where the chocolate sprinkles were the predominant flavour.

Service was super quick though.

Service Speed:5/5
Service Quality: 3/5. The standard polite service.
Coffee: 2/5. Burnt and underwhelming. Not my cup of tea.

Kunara coffee is on the chopping block this morning. An "organic" cafe attached to a garden centre shop. Nice lively atmosphere, but the music was not to my liking. Ritt Momney is not.my cup of tea. Anyway, we are here for coffee.

Service, polite enough: 3/5
Service speed: 2/5. Left waiting for our snacks. Coffee delivery was ok.
Coffee quality: 4/5 Full bodied, a hint of bitterness.

Wax Espresso is on the menu today. The mutant child of a cafe and record store. Heaps of vinyl, but mainly rock/pop/kingly gangly guitar music, and not much of my favoured doof doof. They do however have a local muci section, so big ups there.

I wasn't expecting top notch coffee due to the dual focus, but their coffee was amazing. My first 5, and I didn't have the cold drip Ethiopian they had on offer.

Definately coming back for more.

Service 4/5
Speed of service 3/5. Not too long, and chilled vibe meant waiting a few minutes was very enjoyable.
Coffee 5/5. All kinds of awesomeness

Local Social gets the rundown this morning. One of the kidlets had band practice this morning, so kidlet 2 and I went to get caffeinated. The babyccino was tiny. Kidlet 2 was not impressed, though said the cup was "cute". The large cappucino had a decent size, but the coffee is just lightweight, even with their standard 3 shots that come with the large.

Wait time was a bit long, but I'm giving these guys a free pass due to the number of almond chai's, skinny soy vanilla lattes and extra half shot oat lattes they had to deal with.

Of the six or so orders I witnessed mine was the only one that was a standard coffee. Seriously, I'm becoming more and more convinced that the Yippie customers are the issue on the Sunshine Coast.

Wait time 4/5. Ok, considering.
Service quality 3/5. Polite and smiling through their teeth to the maddening orders.
Coffee quality 3/5. Too mild to be offensive.

Thought I'd give the new kids on the block a go today at Tue Bourbon. They say Espresso Specialists on their shipping container come Cafe. They do have great car parking though, which is a bonus. Also nice views of valley.

Speedy service, though it seems to be a trend here that large is marginally bigger than the small that they call regular.

Coffee is ok. Not bitter, possibly a bit mild. Not full bodied. The chocolate sprinkles probably provide the majority of the "chocolate notes" of the coffee. They have a sign out the front displaying Padre Coffee. I'll keep an eye out to see if this is an inoffensive trend with this bean.

I'd probably sum it up as Inoffensive.

Speed of service 5/5. Quick and efficient. Bonus point for convenient parking
Quality of service. 4/5. No complaints. Polite.
Coffee Quality. 3/5. Just a bit meh.

Mint Cafe , as the sign on the espresso machine helpfully informs. I've done a big hike, I need a big hit of caffeine. I've been here before, and they have been the highlight of the Buderim strip, not only because they are open when others are closed, but also because their coffee is pretty good.

5 minute wait this morning. I think the other 15 people waiting should have parted to let me through, but clearly they didn't understand the magnitude of the levels of blood accumulating in my caffeine stream in my body.

3/5 for speed this morning, though that is entirely down to the customers.
4/5 for service, with a bonus for the optional white chocolate freckle. Yum.

Coffee 4/5. A hint of bitterness, fully flavoured. I'll keep searching for an elusive 5.

I am somewhat disappointed that I need to revisit some cafes on this strip, to give an official score, because there is a reason I keep coming back to Mint. It's for science.

Bunnings Cafe, Maroochydore.

I needed some hardware. I hadn't had breakfast and was in need for coffee. The cafe was convenient. The coffee was sound, though a touch watery. Took a while to have my order taken as the 2 staff were run off their feet, but service was blisteringly fast after that. My breakfast roll and cappuccino were at my table within a couple of minutes.

Quality of coffee 4/5 - would drink again. Nice round flavour, slightly watery.
Service Speed 4/5 - longish order wait, speedy delivery
Service Quality 3/5 - polite and down to business. No complaints.

Kicking this off. I've had quite a few coffees already around the Sunshine Coast, but it's very hit and miss.

My reviews are based on what I like. They are wholly and unapologetically subjective. If you like La Veen, Yahava coffees then you'll probably like what I review as good.

My scales are 1 - 5. If I review a 4 it means it's pretty darn good. 5's are only reserved for exceptional coffee that make me go day'um. Similarly 2's for me are a personal avoid. 1 is truly terrible, as in I didn't finish the cup. Given that my craving for caffeine generally overcomes my desire for taste, I'd expect these to be pretty rare.

I'm not intending this page to be genuinely useful for anyone, except for me, but if you share my personal taste in coffee, it may provide amusement and some general guidance.

If I rate a cafe poorly, it doesn't mean it's bad. I just means it's not to my taste. If a cafe wants a second chance, or has changed a blend, or particularly wants to cater to my taste, feel free to get in touch. I'm adventurous.

Similarly, if I love a coffee, then you may not. That's cool. I celebrate diversity. If I like your coffee and you want to pay me to plug it some more, then I'm always open to getting paid in cheap coffees or real life money. Happy to sell out.

This page is meant as fun, and so that I can keep track of the plethora of cafes in this area.
