Mate if you are not growing your own food are you even living?
Such simple goodness!
Home grown spuds well, ya know, they are nothing like the ones you buy at the shop, so so good!
Silverbeet, Horseradish leaves & Broad Beans sautéd with some local Gero honey & some crumbled feta. Divine combo!
All these veg are super easy to grow, grab some grow bags or find a little patch and get some in!
Greens loose loads of their nutrients shortly after they are picked, nothing like picking them while your steak is cooking!
Not only does growing your own give you more bang for your buck, it also keeps you active and makes you happier, not to mention it’s not washed in chlorine or other hidden nasties!
So grateful for my little patch ❣️

Can’t find my recipe book, had to wing it, made a peanut butter brownie, flourless choc cake, sticky date pudding, soft spelt burger buns and crispy chicken fillets and loaded their burgers with salad from the garden. Send em to bed with full bellies, lights out on another day at Nans resort.
Had to whip a comfrey poultice, I may have sprained my ankle sometime last week, can’t remember but it was sore, comfrey fixed it overnight. Like who has time for that nonsense, not me!
Meet my Mandarine patch, so in love with this little tree.
Hope the school holidays are treating you well. Lights out now for me too❣️

Just over 3 months growth, all the herbs are pumping, Passionfruit now making a canopy for shade and look at my banana’s! There is also sweet potato which I planted whole and it’s giving me endless slips to plant out, ginger, cardamom, society garlic, bush mint, tarragon and of course nasturtium. Everything is edible! Now I’m going to fit two dwarf avocado trees in here too. The bananas are in pots under the dirt, I’m going to do the same with the avos, this bed is very close to the pool, so roots must be contained. Using this method is working a treat, it keeps the roots nourished, the worms can crawl in the pots, the pool is protected from root damage and we have a lush cool edible garden to enjoy. I water this bed with the rinse water from my front loader, I catch in a bucket and cart it out, no gym required!
Get planting friends, cool your outdoor spaces, build your muscles, grow food and improve your mood ❣️

Almost a year to the day we started the process of getting Miss D her ride.
We have been limping along with unsatisfactory wheels for what seems like forever! These wheels have been built just for her, with the correct supports and adequate equipment for her to access all areas to lead a full life.
I have so much gratitude in my heart for the NDIS, without it, this would not have been possible. More to the point hard working Australians whose tax dollars have made this possible, to give our girl a much better quality of life. None of it is lost on me.
Special thanks to Prue, Daisy’s OT for always looking out for Daisy’s needs.
Can’t wait for hand over tomorrow 🙏🩷🌼

How many chips can a wood chipper chip?
Phew…. Mind blowing how many loads we have bought in, it’s like this old dry space just gobbled them up! Making such a difference to the appearance and feel of the space, not to mention the water saving capacity wood chips provide. At the pointy end now, I have 4 more areas to address and regenerate.
I can now get my girl and her wheels all the way round the garden. 🩷

Nans Resort officially opened today! After a spot of spreading more wood chips, planting out some seedlings 🌱 and Nan getting in the pool to scoop the bugs out 🙄, it was time for the first swim of the season! Of course they were starving so home made pizza it was! Spending time with Grand children can increase your longevity, does this mean I will live to 200?
Aunty Day Day was pretty chuffed with her first swim too, was so happy to see her the happiest she has been in a long while.
Such a beautiful day filled with gardening, swimming, laughter, fun and love, I am truly blessed 🩷🙏

This Mornings steps in the garden, yesterday I was working all day so didn’t have a chance to get out in the garden to do anything, so it’s exciting to see what flourished.
I have planted so many seeds things are sprouting left right and centre. In all honesty I don’t really remember what I planted where 🤷🏻‍♀️, so it’s like a surprise when they start showing themselves 🤣.
I have much more success with planting direct than nurturing seed trays!
Found some oyster mushrooms, lots of flower seeds popping up and I think that is radish in the 3 rd pic. My tomatoes are going nuts, loaded with fruit and flowers, corn coming along nicely too. Over planting has created so much goodness for the soil, I pulled up some extra caulis I planted and using them to create more compost directly where I am planting a banana ring, at the bottom of the garden which is a hot spot but also collects most of the water, ideal for the bananas.
Remember the ones I planted in my back planter? They are in pots in the ground and have grown so big, I am transplanting these to the new banana bed.
I am in search of a couple of paw paw trees for this spot too, I am trying to grow from seed but nothing to report yet.
I am going to replace the bananas with dwarf avocados, it’s the ideal spot for them, I believe they can be a little precious, so I’m going to give them the primo location cause avos are a medicine food, high is good fats, fibre and the girls just love them, even the seeds can be used for medicine.
It’s going to be a warm one!
Have a beautiful day 🩷

6 months ago I decided to grow as much food as possible in our small space.
Berries were on top of my list, they also full of magical nutrients, unfortunately they are unnecessarily sprayed with all sorts of crap, so my girl hasn’t had a blueberries for ages until now.
She is a bit run down at the moment normal for this time in the term, when she is like this her appetite disappears. Now you wouldn’t think this if you saw how healthy she is, but things can turn quickly with Rett so a loss of appetite if always always a big worry.
She wouldn’t eat dinner last night or Breaky this morning…😞
Upon my morning steps around the garden I found 1 white mulberry and 3 blueberries, which is picked and she gobbled up with a big smile on her face. When you have a non verbal child, you learn to read their thoughts and understand them deeply, words are only 9% of communication.
She knows I grew these for her, she has watched me build the garden and knows I have poured my love and devotion into it, for her and my grandchildren. She can see the garden from her bed.
I am planting many foods that will produce for over 20 years, blueberries can live 70 years plus.
Our home is so humble, my dream is to leave a legacy for the littles to always have someone to live, eat and a soul knowing they belong.
This world is upside down,🙃 the core of my soul feels this so deeply, shelter, food and community is imperative and it’s getting harder and harder for our future generations. I feel it’s my responsibility to take care of them the best I can and that’s providing this legacy…… so even when I’m gone they have the most basic needs and the safety of a North Star we leave for them.
Now I’m no stranger to broken dreams but it doesn’t stop me from dreaming and creating and wanting to leave a legacy.
I mean just look at my little apple trees both have flowers which means potentially we will get an apple this summer 🤞 🙏
Dwarf Apple trees can live for up to 20 + years too. 🍎
