LIFE OF A BUSINESS OWNER!
People often ask why our hours are so short, I’ve answered this before but I will go ahead and answer it again! We are running off of a small trailer attached to my truck, we are not a food truck, we are not a brick and mortar! We have a little cart! This cart was not made to serve 500 people in a day, but me and Juli make it work! The cart is put to the ultimate test every single day we take it out! THIS IS THE HOMEDOG PEAK! Me and Juli working the cart together every single day! Nothin better than that!
I think that people believe we only work 3 days but those that has a business or a food business know we are working every single day! There isn’t a day in the last 3 years that I haven’t worked. Being open Tuesday Thursday and Friday allows us to prep on Monday and Wednesday. If we did not have those prep days, our team would not be able to put out all the ingredients and product that we do. As of this week, we are putting out about 70-85lbs of Chili itself. For 3 days! People do not understand that there is no possible way to run this cart for 8 hours (as busy as we are) and be able to serve out the quality that I want to live up to!
I am a perfectionist and every single hotdog I serve out, gets a grade in my head. Every single dog is different to me, (not to you) I always want to serve out the same exact hotdog and the same amazing flavor. We are all about quality control and once we get our upgrade, we will be able to be open longer! I always tell people, Do NOT WORRY. THE HOMEDOG ISNT GOING ANYWHERE BUT UP! Mondays and Wednesdays are me and Juli’s crazy days to catch up with everything! If we decide to work every single Saturday. Sunday and Monday become super hectic with prep and catching up with supplies. Running a business isn’t just the “hours we put on the cart”. It’s the hours we put into the business. Today (Monday) I started the day with 3 meetings, the little things in business take up more time than you would ever believe! Research happens everyday, me Juli, and the team put in more hours into a business than most! The reason we will take this to the top!
When I got my trailer. My initial goal was to extend my hours, but many of you know. We are growing on every single platform, and with that upgrades will have to come to maintain the highest quality and service. I sometimes feel so bad for my regulars in hanover that just want to stop and grab a quick meal, and that will come back! I get comments like “I would stay open till 6 and really make a lot of money, or why do you only work 4 hours” my response is come to the cart and see what we are working with! Juli and i hardly fit inside the cart itself! You cannot just “bring more product”. Juli and I are clean freaks, and when the cart has been worked for 4 hours, it is ready to be cleaned! It cannot just be restocked and ready to roll! A lot of permits and networking goes into the business you are seeing on this phone!
Just sit back and enjoy the content and maybe come grab a dog or 2! After 4 hours of nonstop slinging and talking. The human brain is fogged up. We see people starting up food carts all the time, but to have a full time food cart is a bit different! This isn’t for “fun”. This is how me and juli live! This is how we grow!
