Ombra Italian Cafe We’re a small, community-focused café tucked on the corner of Gympie and Rode Road in Chermside — serving great coffee, real food, and warm hospitality.

We also run Ombra Italian in Newstead, known for its handmade pasta and cult local following.

Chermside will be open this weekend for LUNCH!!!

So if you'd like to pop in for some coffee, cake and pasta.... we've got chu!

Open from 10am to 1pm (same hours as we still make everything by hand)

We'll be adapting the menu as we go; think of this as a trial run :)

Just a quick little update from me.

As of Monday the 23rd, we’ll be adjusting our trading hours.

You have spoken… a lot… and one thing has been crystal clear:

You don’t want “just another café.”
You want Ombra… with coffee 🤣

Now that dinner is growing organically (and yes — we’re currently ranked #1 on Google for handmade pasta in Chermside 🙏), I want to take your advice and show the café some proper love.

I’m going to strip things back a little and focus on making the menu more uniquely us.

We’re not a trendy, style-over-substance café.
We’re a casual, community spot that focuses on outstanding handmade pasta… and we’re bringing that same energy to brunch.

So expect:

• A tighter, more focused brunch menu
• Fewer options, done better
• Drinks that feel thoughtful, not generic
• Seasonal tweaks instead of big bloated menus

Less trying to compete with everyone.
More doubling down on what makes Ombra, Ombra.

Thanks for backing us while we refine things.

Quick BTS thought 💭

A few of you keep asking what ingredients we actually use… so I’ve been thinking about adding a small retail shelf at Chermside.

Not random stuff - the exact products I cook with.
Things like our Carnaroli risotto rice, imported from Italy through a local Italian family.

Couple of rules though:
• If I wouldn’t use it, I won’t sell it
• Some things I just don’t have the capacity to make (still obsessed with orecchiette though)

If something comes in, I’ll cook with it first and be clear about what it is -so you can see it in action before deciding if it’s worth taking home.

But did you know Monday - Friday we have our coffee machine fired up and a fantastic selection of handmade toasties, cakes and desserts.

Or, maybe pasta is more your thing? Pop in for lunch between 11am and 1pm to find out :)

Fresh cabinet goodies are out now, baked daily and always limited. I also have a few more cakes on the way this week.

Also, after a huge week, handmade pasta is back 🙌
BUT our famous Lamb Ragù is still in the oven and won’t hit until dinner tonight. Slow-cooked, small batch, and it sells out fast.

Get in early, don’t miss it 🍝☕🍰
