It's not everyday you see new Indonesian restaurants opening up in Brissie and unfortunately, usually they have portion control issues compared to their SEA restaurant counterparts which are more generous. So when RIA decides to open up at Runcorn, we gave it a try.
The prices on the menu are for the meat only, which can be considered pricy for some as it does not include rice. Meaning, you would have to buy rice by itself as an add-on. We opted for takeaway due to time constraints and went for the main three flavour profiles (Grill, Fried, Smashed).
Honestly speaking, I enjoyed all three flavours. They were all cooked well, the Grilled Beef Ribs was more on the sweeter side and did not have any bones in them (I believe when you dine in, you do get bones attached) or maybe we were just lucky. This also came with 1 fried tofu + 1 tempeh.
Their classic Ayam Goreng had the right of amount of marination that it did not need much more to bring out the flavours other than eating it with rice for a good pairing. The crunch on top made it better. I would buy a packet to have at home if I could. This also came with 1 fried tofu + 1 tempeh.
As for the Ayam Geprek, it was deep fried and ok but nothing special, but I did feel the batter was quite thick and chicken meat was inconsistent in terms of cut. Thicker at the end and very thin in the middle.
Each came with 1-2 salad leaves and 2-3 slices of cucumber which I felt looked sad and lonely. Pretty sure it does not hurt to add abit more greens or have none at all.
The sambals in Indonesia always hits the spot especially for those who likes it spicy. Real chillies, real punch.
Looking forward to trying their other dishes during my next visit.
